Compulsory break in Coimbra

28/11/2021

2 weeks are done and with the Torre in Portugal on 1993m above sea level I have climbed the first country high point. Snow, cold, sunshine, breathtaking views and winding roads I found up there in the Serra da Estrela. With Porto and Coimbra, I also enjoyed two wonderful Portuguese cities. The landscape here is incredibly beautiful, the weather pleasantly warm, the people very open and the drivers much more aggressive than in France or Spain. Unfortunately, the tendon in the back of my knee has become inflamed, so I will now be forced to spend a few days in Coimbra before hopefully continuing on towards Lisbon, the Algarve and southern Spain. Until then, I will use the time as good as I can for rest, good Portuguese food, exploring this wonderful city and for the necessary "office work". See you soon!

2000 km done!

In the last 1 ½ weeks I have covered a good 2000 km and with France and Spain already two countries crossed from east to west. The weather of the last days was really bad with heavy rain and strong wind. Thanks to the high quality equipment from my sponsors I survived this phase well and thanks to generous donations from friends, I could afford to spend a night in a dry and warm air B&B accommodation and let my stuff dry. I was able to patch the first flat tire myself (amazingly - my handicraft skills are really below average). Now I cross the Portuguese border and look forward, there especially to Porto, Lisbon and hopefully the sunny warm south of the country.

One week on the road

Already one week I am on the road and can check off the first items from my long list.  France has shown itself - except for the weather - from its wonderful side. All the beautiful cities like Lyon, Bordeaux or Annecy as well as small villages, forests, lakes and passes have given me a really good time.  Now France is behind me, and I have reached the Atlantic Ocean and Spain. In the next few days, I will continue to Portugal. I am happy that I could already gain so many positive impressions and my biggest problem was that I could partly hardly stop pedaling. Now many coastal sections and hilly terrain await me . I hope to see more beautiful places and I'm excited to see what all awaits me. With the ascent of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in France, I'm still waiting until conditions allow it.

3 days on the road

I have been on the road for three days now. The first two of them with Nico. Thank you so much for your company! It has made it incredibly easier for me to say goodbye to family, friends and my comfort zone. In Gstaad we were allowed to spend the night free of charge with a family we didn't know in a warm apartment and were able to recover well, so that we made it to the border to France on Sunday without any problems. Now I'm on my own and got used to the French road signs, saw beautiful places and cities, spent a night under the open sky and already made more than 500 km. Soon I should reach the sea and I am curious what all awaits me. What I can already say, my clothes keep me dry and warm 😊.

The final preparations are in full swing, the nervousness is slowly rising. Meanwhile, a lot of material has arrived and will be finally tested tomorrow on a small test tour. Many thanks to all partners at this point. Unbelievable how uncomplicated and spontaneous everything came together!
4 more times I can sleep in my warm bed, then I will live in a tent for 10 months. A crazy idea. But the anticipation is definitely there and I can hardly wait to finally leave on Saturday (November 13) :)
